Who We Are

At Challenge Employment and Training, we have been transforming lives for over 50 years. Throughout this time, our mission has remained clear and consistent: to create meaningful opportunities for individuals who face barriers to employment and education. By delivering Practical Skills & Real Outcomes, we equip individuals and teams with hands-on capabilities that translate directly into measurable, real-world impact. Our focus is not just on training for the sake of learning, but on building confidence, independence, and long-term employability.

Originally established as a grassroots community initiative, we began as Young Unemployed People of Ipswich (YUPI), formed to address the growing issue of youth unemployment in the Ipswich region. What started as a small, community-driven effort has since evolved into a dynamic and responsive organisation. Today, Challenge Employment and Training is a registered not-for-profit training provider operating across South-East Queensland, supporting individuals from a wide range of backgrounds to access education, skills development, and sustainable employment pathways.

Over the decades, we have grown not only in size but also in scope. While our origins were firmly focused on supporting young people, we now serve a broader cross-section of the community, including long-term unemployed individuals, people with disabilities, Indigenous Australians, and others experiencing disadvantage. Despite this expansion, young people remain at the heart of what we do, with approximately 76% of our participants still coming from a youth cohort.

Our approach is centred on the individual. We recognise that every person’s journey is unique, and we tailor our support to meet their specific needs, goals, and circumstances. Through one-on-one mentoring and guidance, we help participants develop essential work and life skills such as communication, teamwork, problem-solving, and resilience.

In addition to personal development, we provide practical, industry-relevant training that aligns with current workforce demands. Our programs are designed in collaboration with employers and industry partners to ensure participants gain skills that are both relevant and valued. This connection to real-world environments allows individuals to gain hands-on experience, build confidence in workplace settings, and develop a clear understanding of employer expectations.

We also place a strong emphasis on creating pathways rather than one-off outcomes. Whether it is through accredited training, work placements, apprenticeships, or direct employment opportunities, our goal is to support individuals in achieving sustainable, long-term success.
