FUNDING SET ASIDE JUST FOR YOU
GET SET FOR WORK RETURNS TO CHALLENGE
If you’ve never heard of the Get Set for Work (GSFW) program, you’re not alone. While it may not be a program everyone has come across, it is a specialised youth initiative designed to help young people aged 15 to 19 prepare for the workforce, build confidence and develop practical skills for their future.
For many young people, moving from school or other learning environments into employment can feel overwhelming. There can be barriers that make it difficult to know where to start, including a lack of confidence, limited work experience, difficulty learning in traditional environments or simply not having had access to the right opportunities.
That’s where Get Set for Work can make a real difference.

What does the Get Set for Work program look like?
Using individualised and strengths-based approaches, participants are supported over an eight-week program to identify and overcome barriers, learn valuable new skills and develop a brighter outlook for their future. The program is designed to meet young people where they are, helping them build on their existing strengths while giving them the practical knowledge and confidence they need to take their next steps towards employment.
The Get Set for Work program run by Challenge is one example of how this funding can create meaningful opportunities for young people.
What’s different about the Challenge Get Set for Work?
Starting 27 February 2027, trainers will work with a group of just 13 young people, creating an environment where participants can receive individual attention, encouragement and hands-on support throughout the program.
Over the eight weeks, participants will gain practical skills and complete a range of valuable short courses, including:
- SITHFAB025 – Prepare and serve espresso coffee
- SITHFAB021 – Provide responsible service of alcohol
- HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid
- TLILIC0003 – Licence to operate a forklift truck
Only available to participants aged 18–19 due to Government regulations. - SITXFSA005 – Use hygienic practices for food safety
These qualifications and practical skills can give participants an important head start when applying for jobs in industries such as hospitality, warehousing, retail, food services and other areas of the workforce.
But that’s not even the best thing about this course.
Get Set for Work is about much more than completing certificates. It’s about developing the everyday skills, independence and confidence that can help young people feel ready to take on new challenges.
Participants will also have the opportunity to:
- Learn how to change a tyre, building an important practical life skill and greater independence.
- Access driving lessons with a qualified driving instructor, helping eligible participants work towards greater confidence and independence on the road.
- Receive funds to budget, plan and cook their own breakfast and lunch every day, giving participants the opportunity to develop practical skills around budgeting, meal planning, food preparation and healthy choices.
- Take part in regular excursions, held once a fortnight on Fridays for students who attend regularly. Activities may include movies, canoeing, bowling and more!
These experiences are designed to make learning practical, engaging and relevant to everyday life.
AND IT’S ALL FULLY FUNDED!
For young people and their families, this is an incredible opportunity to access training, experiences and support without the financial burden that can often come with completing courses and gaining new qualifications.
The young people who may benefit most from this program are those who learn differently. Perhaps they need a little more time to grasp new concepts. Maybe traditional classroom environments haven’t allowed them to demonstrate what they are capable of. Or perhaps they simply haven’t had the opportunity to learn in an environment that focuses on their strengths rather than their weaknesses.
At Challenge, we believe that every young person has potential. Sometimes, all they need is the right environment, the right support and someone willing to give them the opportunity to succeed.
That’s why Challenge is committed to helping young people become better prepared for the changing workforce climate. The world of work is constantly evolving, and young people need more than just a resume to navigate it. They need confidence, practical skills, resilience, independence and the ability to recognise their own strengths.
Get Set for Work provides an opportunity to build all of these things — while having fun, meeting new people and gaining skills that can be used well beyond the program.
If you know a young person aged 15–19 who could benefit from a supportive, practical and inclusive approach to preparing for work, this could be the opportunity they’ve been waiting for. Go here to find out how to enrol!
