What is the Construction Traineeship?

The Construction Traineeship is a hands-on, full-time program where you learn real construction skills while working on a real project, not just in a classroom. It’s part of a Queensland Government–funded program and is designed to support people who want a fresh start, are new to the workforce, or are looking for a clear pathway into the construction industry.

This traineeship gives you the chance to learn by doing, with support from experienced trainers and supervisors who understand that everyone starts somewhere. You’ll build practical skills, confidence, and good work habits while being paid to learn in a real work environment. Along the way, you’ll also develop important employability skills such as teamwork, communication, time management, and problem-solving — skills that employers value across the construction industry.

You’ll train on the job as part of a community construction project at our New Chum 4303 project site, where you’ll gain practical, hands-on experience working with tools, materials, and construction equipment. You’ll learn how a work site operates day to day, what is expected of workers, and how to work safely and professionally.

By the end of the program, you’ll have real work experience to put on your resume, nationally recognised training, and a better understanding of the different job opportunities available in construction. Most importantly, you’ll be better prepared to move into ongoing employment, further training, or an apprenticeship in the construction industry.

What You’ll Get Out of It

This traineeship gives you a solid introduction to the construction industry, including:

  • What it’s really like to work in construction

  • Different job roles and career options

  • How to work safely on a site

  • How to communicate and work as part of a team

  • How to plan your work and get the job done

  • How to safely use basic tools and materials

You’ll learn by doing, not just sitting in a classroom. All training is built around a real construction project, so you can put your skills into practice straight away.

This Is a Real Job

This traineeship is a full-time job (38 hours a week) on an active work site. That means real expectations, just like any other job:

  • Turn up on time

  • Get involved and have a go
