Challenge Employment and Training (CET) commenced operation in 1976 as Ipswich YUPI Program Inc. A not-for-profit organisation committed to the development of unemployed and disadvantaged persons. The change of name to Challenge Employment and Training occurred in 1998 with the expansion into regional centres and our need for a more generic name with no locality reference.

During the past 29 years, CET has been involved in a number of programs, all designed to provide skills, work experience or job seeking support, to enable individuals to gain or maintain employment.  In total we have assisted some 42,000 persons of whom 55% have found employment and some 15% have returned to education/training. Currently, CET is a Community Work Coordinator facilitating the Work for the Dole program and a major provider of State Government sponsored Labour Market Programs and Programs with Schools.

CET also has a training arm, Challenge Learning Institute, which provides Traineeships and Fee-for-Service training and a number of Enterprises such as landscaping services, wholesale nurseries and engineering workshops. We also have a significant role in the State Government’s Community Renewal programs in Inala, Goodna and Mooroobool (Cairns).

Finally, we have an employment service – Prime Recruitment – which provides for full-time and casual positions as well as a Labour Hire service
