Challenge Employment and Training has been involved with the Queensland Department of Housing in the refurbishment of government owned housing since 1997. Initially, the Challenge teams were contracted to provide replacement fencing in the Ipswich suburb of Riverview. Typically, the work requires teams comprising a qualified supervisor and several unemployed persons to build kilometres of back and side fencing in treated timber to a height of 1.8 metres. Progressively, as we were able to demonstrate a capacity to complete the work in a timely manner and to the required standard, the work tasks have been extended to include:
Fencing to a variety of specifications
Construction of sheds on concrete slabs
Streetscaping
Mowing of yards, footpaths and vacant lots.
In recent times, Challenge has been contracted to complete work in many parts of the State including:
Inala/Richlands
Goodna and Carole Park
Riverview
Harlaxton (Toowoomba)
Manoora and Mooroobool (Cairns)
